NEPAL'S RSP LEADER RECEIVES GRAND RECEPTION AT BJP HEADQUARTERS AMID NEW DELHI OUTREACH TO KATHMANDU
Nepal's ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane received a warm welcome at the BJP headquarters during his June 1–5 India visit. The trip, conducted under the "Know BJP" initiative, includes high-level discussions on trade, infrastructure, and security, following RSP's landslide electoral victory and the rise of Prime Minister Balen Shah.
Lamichhane is leading a delegation to India at the invitation of BJP National President Nitin Nabin as part of the "Know BJP" initiative. The visit includes a series of high-level engagements, closed-door discussions, interactions with community groups, and a visit to Ayodhya.
The diplomatic outreach comes shortly after the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured a landslide victory in Nepal's March 2026 elections, paving the way for 35-year-old Balen Shah to become the country's youngest Prime Minister. The electoral success marked a major political shift in Nepal and introduced a new leadership team in Kathmandu.
During the visit, discussions have focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring nations. Trade, infrastructure development, and security cooperation have emerged as key areas of engagement. The meetings are taking place against the backdrop of ongoing border tensions, making the dialogue particularly significant for regional stability and future collaboration.
The traditional reception accorded to the Nepalese delegation and the emphasis on shared cultural and historical ties underscored India's efforts to deepen engagement with Nepal's new government. The visit is widely seen as an important step toward enhancing mutual understanding and expanding cooperation across strategic sectors.
As India and Nepal navigate a changing regional landscape, the visit by Rabi Lamichhane and the RSP delegation highlights the growing importance of political dialogue and diplomatic engagement. The focus on cultural connections, economic cooperation, and security coordination signals a renewed effort to strengthen relations between the two countries at a pivotal moment in their bilateral partnership.
